K. Narayan at Chennai's Marina beach area on 10 October 2011. His grandson Shreyas Talpade and debutant Pavan Malhotra play dual roles as this prominent writer and his famous fictional character Krushna Kanojiya in the film. The film traces the life of R. K. Narayan from his birth in 1904 at Pune to the end, when he died on 17 October 1995, at his home in Chennai. The story starts with R. K. Narayan's initial meetings with Rabindranath Tagore and Sri Aurobindo, which includes the famous "Letter to a friend". The film ends with a depiction of Nargis' fate after she met R.K., inspired by his stories.
